FX Webinars Weekly Overview – February 1–5

Published on Jan 31st, 2021 by José Martins Rocha

Considering this past week, we have seen most action on Friday, with the USD continuing to lose some strength against the EUR, CAD and NZD, mostly because of better than expected economic figures. More concerning, is the view of the ECB in its monetary policy, since one of its governors stated this week that, if necessary, the ECB is willing to decrease even lower the deposit rate, in order to control the exchange rate, and try to stimulate inflation in the Eurozone.

Regarding this coming week, it will be a busy week with interest rate decision in Australia and the U.K., employment data in the U.S., and the GDP in the Eurozone. With the European countries continuing the lockdown restrictions due to the overwhelming number of cases and fatalities, we will have to see how the market reacts with the easing of restrictions in some states in the United States, as well as their good vaccination campaign.
