FX Webinars Weekly Overview – March 15–19

Published on Mar 14th, 2021 by José Martins Rocha

Considering this past week, we’ve seen most of the currencies recovering against the USD, most probably because of the retreatment by the treasury yields, despite rising once again on Friday to one-year highs. Regarding the EUR, Lagarde told as expected that interest rates will remain unchanged, but at the same time stated that the ECB will ramp up the bond buying program, in order to help stimulate the EU economy and thus prevent rises in yields, which one more time, shows the discrepancy in views between the Fed and the ECB.

This coming week, if the week starts with the continuing rise of the United States treasury yields, probably we will see the USD gaining once again momentum against the other currencies. We also have the interest rate decision for U.S. and U.K., but the most likely scenario is that all rates remain the same. What we need to be more focused are the impacts of the approval of the stimulus program in the U.S. and the risks of inflation (i.e., continue rising of yields) and the FOMC projections and Press Conference, as well as the Fed’s monetary policy statement.

Despite all these movements, do not forget that there are market events and data releases that could affect forex pairs during the week, and shift investors’ sentiment (all times set in UTC):
