FX Webinars Weekly Overview – March 22–26

Published on Mar 21st, 2021 by José Martins Rocha

Considering this past week, we’ve seen the USD continuing to gain strength against other currencies, and finally also against the CAD. Although Powell clearly stated rising interest rates are not in the scope of the Fed until 2023, this didn’t avoid the rise of U.S. 10Y yield, most likely due to expectation by investors of rising interest rates in the medium term. This move by the yields, supported even more the gain of the USD, with the EUR/USD falling, but also it supported a rise in XAU, gaining 1,40% in the week.

This coming week, we’ll probably see the continuing of the momentum by the USD, with the rest of the major currencies falling against the USD. Powell will testify to the Congress, but it will most likely maintain his speech of last week. Additionally, the delay in the E.U. countries to roll-out the vaccines are adding additional pressure in the EUR against the USD and the GBP.

Despite all these movements, do not forget that there are market events and data releases that could affect forex pairs during the week, and shift investors’ sentiment (all times set in UTC):
